Portfolio Structure
Each portfolio requires completion of a number of projects and tasks to meet the assessment criteria and to show competency.
Types of Evidence Required
The training materials provided to you will detail the specific skills you need to demonstrate and the evidence for these you need to collect. Evidence can be provided in many ways and your coach or facilitator will guide you through the process. Examples of evidence can be, but is not limited to:
- Internal documentation such as letters, emails, reports, photos, case files, meeting minutes etc.
- Employer assessments
- Testimonials and references from others who witness your attainments
- Visual recordings
- Behavioural interviews
If you are working in your field of study, you can submit previous examples of your work however, the work must have been completed in the 12 months prior to commencing the course.
Organising a Portfolio of Evidence
Portfolios must be well organised or you will be asked to resubmit. Here’s a guide to organising your portfolio:
DOs
- Use a plastic lever arch folder or similar style folder OR a set up an electronic folder system or document if you are submitting via email (preferably as PDF file)
- Clearly label your portfolio with your name, course and date
- Use tab dividers to organise your portfolio into Sections, Modules or Course Units (based on how your course is structured
- Provide a table of contents
- Print out the Assessment Booklet for the Module
- Dividing your work into sections:
| Section 1 | List your Completed Tasks, in the same order as they are presented in the assessment booklet using the same numerical references. Make reference to attached documents and other evidence i.e.

| Section 2 | Attached documents & evidence, clearly labelled and cross referenced to the associated task using the numerical references i.e.
Q1 Attachment #1—email to the learner to confirm meeting Q1 Attachment #2—copy of completed training needs analysis completed at the meeting. You would place both attachments in order in the attached documents section of your portfolio. |
DONTs
- Your assessor and/or coach will provide feedback on your portfolio of evidence by writing on documents inside your portfolio. For this purpose, if you are submitting evidence via post, please do not use plastic sheets.
Submitting Portfolios of Evidence
Portfolios of evidence must be submitted when completed and as directed – at the end of a module or at the completion of a course. They must be submitted in the required timeframe to your coach or facilitator via
- Post OR
- Email (as a PDF document)
Please keep a copy of your portfolio of evidence before submission.
Assessing Portfolios of Evidence
- When assessing a portfolio of evidence the assessor will make a decision against each assessment task
- If the assessor deems you have provided sufficient evidence of the necessary skills or knowledge you will not be required to submit additional evidence
- If the assessor deems you have not provided sufficient evidence you will be asked to submit more evidence
